Dr. Bill Regli, an MEM Affiliated faculty member, as well as Dr. Shokoufandeh (CS), were featured in the lead article in the September issue of ASME's Mechanical Engineering Magazine.

The problem of power system management in electric ships was investigated in a paper at the 1st IEEE Electric Ship Technology Symposium in Philadelphia in July: H. KWATNY, E. MENSAH, D. NIEBUR, and C. TEOLIS, “Optimal Shipboard Power System Management via Mixed Integer Dynamic Programming.”
Dr. David Wootton, MEM Assistant Professor, will be organizing and chairing a symposium on Thrombosis and Rheology, for the 2005 Biomedical Engineering Society Annual Meeting, in Baltimore, MD, at the end of September.
Chun Xu, MEM PhD candidate, presented part of her PhD dissertation at
the 27th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine
and Biology Society (EMBS), in Shanghai, China, in September. The title of
her paper is "Image-Based Three-Dimensional Finite Element Modeling Approach
for Upper Airway Mechanics." She has been working under the guidance of her MEM advisor, Dr. David Wootton.
MEM Drexel Plasma Institute graduate student, Greg Fridman, was selected as Best Paper for his presentation “Blood Coagulation and Treatment of Surface Wounds Using Non-Thermal Plasma,” in the Biomedical Section of 17-th International Symposium on Plasma Chemistry, in Toronto, Canada.
Dr. Jaydev P. Desai, James Hing, and Dr. Ari Brooks have been invited to present their work titled: Reality-based Estimation of Needle and Soft-tissue Interaction for Accurate Haptic Feedback in Prostate Brachytherapy Simulation at the 12th International Symposium of Robotics Research (ISRR) in San Francisco, CA from October 12-15, 2005. ISRR is a single-track premier conference in Robotics held every two years.
