P.C. Chou Assistant Professor Alisa Morss Clyne (MEM) has been awarded a grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH) entitled, “Design and Development of a Dielectrophoretic Device for Cell Mechanics.” In this project, negative dielectrophoresis (the force induced on a polarizable particle in a spatially non-uniform electric field) will be used to determine the mechanical properties of a single, attached cell without physical contact. This device will allow dynamic analysis of cell mechanics in varied biomechanical and biochemical environments. The budget of the
two- year NIH award is $142,103.
