MEM Faculty Member Invited to Serve on EPA Agency Subcommittee

 

PRESENTATIONS, AWARDS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dr. Bakhtier Farouk, Billings professor of mechanical engineering and mechanics, presented a paper titled, 'Simulation of Anthrax Spore Transport and Inactivation in a Room: Scaling Analysis’, at the 2005 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, Orlando, Florida, co-authored with graduate student Mr. Sankalp Soni, mechanical engineering and mechanics and Dr. Charles N. Haas, Betz professor, civil, architectural and environmental engineering.

Dr. Paul Oh, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics, chaired the session on Biomimetic Robots and Micro Air Vehicles at the 2005 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE) in Orlando.

Bill Green, a Mechanical Engineering graduate student, gave a technical talk entitled "Towards Autonomous Fixed-Wing MAVs with Hovering Capabilities" at the 2005 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE) in Orlando.

Vinay Gadia and Sristi Roy, electrical engineering undergraduates, Nischitha Venkatesh and Sagar Lunagaria, biomedical engineering undergraduates, Rahul Singh, computer engineering undergraduate, Rohan Patel, architectural engineering undergraduate and Dr. Brad Layton, Assistant MEM professor, authored “Construction of an Educational Model of an Atomic Force Microscope” and was published in  The Nanotechnology Group Volume 4, Number 7, in November, 2005.  These students comprised Dr. Layton’s Freshmen Design Team.

Dr. Brad Layton, MEM Assistant Professor, was an  invited speaker at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Mathematical and Computational Sciences Division "Nanometrology and Micrometrology in Biological Systems" in November, 2005.

Stephanie Sullivan, MEM grad student, Brian G. Jamieson, NASA collaborator, and Dr. Brad E. Layton, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, presented “A Micro-Fabricated Electrical Impedance Based Hematology Analyzer,” at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition from November 5-11, in Orlando, FL.

Kate Allen, Mert Sasoglu, mechanical engineering graduate students and Dr. Brad Layton, presented “Mechanical Neural Growth Models,” at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition from November 5-11, in Orlando, FL.

Dr. Brad Layton, MEM Assistant Professor, was cited in the Notes of Testimony at the Philadelphia City Council meeting November 3, 2005 for assisting the Shaw Middle School FIRST Robotics Team in their Japan Competition.
