On Wednesday May 4, 2005, the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics hosted the first Freshmen Mentoring Event in the auditorium of the Bossone Research Center.
The event consisted of an informal presentation on the different concentrations within Mechanical Engineering as well as a description of how the new mentoring program will work. At the completion of the presentation, students were asked to fill out a brief questionnaire and to pick their choice of a faculty mentor. The students will be assigned a faculty mentor with whom they will meet as needed, and then fill out a final questionnaire in order to see how beneficial the program was to the student.
The students were also able to mingle with the faculty and staff of the department over pizza after the presentation in the Bossone lobby. Not only were there a number of MEM freshmen attending, the invitation was extended to still-deciding engineering freshmen as well.
The event was a success and although the program is in it's pilot stages, the MEM department hopes to continue forward in improving and strengthening it.
For more information on how to join the program and receive a faculty mentor, please contact the MEM Program Coordinator, Colleen Rzucidlo, at cmr52@drexel.edu.
