The Department of Mechanical Engineering & Mechanics is pleased to announce the arrival of three new faculty members in September of 2005. We greatly look forward to having them on our team!
Dr. Kimberly Cook will be joining as an assistant professor of mechanical engineering starting in September. Dr. Cook has just completed her Doctoral studies at the University of Michigan. She completed her B.Sc. degree also at Michigan (1994) and received her Masters degree from Stanford University in 1995. She also worked at the prestigious Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a research engineer during 1996-98. Her area of research is in intelligent design.
Dr. Tiffany A. Miller has accepted our offer to join the department as an assistant professor starting in September. Dr. Miller has just received her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. She has her Master's and Bachelor's degrees (Magna Cum Laude) also from University of Michigan. During her Doctoral studies, she held the prestigious National Defense Science & Engineering Graduate Fellowship. Dr. Miller's research interests are in thermal/fluid areas and her dissertation was on Metal/Metal oxide composite particles at the nano-scale for sensor applications using multiphase precursors in laminar diffusion flames.
Dr. Franco Capaldi will be joining our department as an assistant professor in September. A native of Rochester, New York, Dr. Capaldi has just completed his Ph.D. studies at MIT. He received his Bachelor degree from Brown University (Magna Cum Laude) and a Masters also from MIT. During his Doctoral studies Franco had an NSF Graduate Fellowship and held other prestigious fellowships including Presidential Fellowship and DeMase Fellowship. His research area is characterization of interface for nanoscopic particle reinforced polymeric composites.
