Lipid membranes play a critical role in the function and behavior of all living cells. These biological membranes separate cells from their environment while allowing transport of important molecules in and out of the cell. There are a variety of lipids and proteins present in the cell membrane which regulate both transport and communication with the outside environment.

We are using molecular modeling to study the mechanics and function of lipid bilayers. These models give detailed insight into the atomic interactions governing lipid behavior and allow us to probe structure function relationships in the membrane.
