Dr. George E. Law, Jr. '76, '78, '81
College of Engineering's Engineer of the Year for 2002

Dr. George E. Law Since 1992, the College of Engineering has bestowed the annual honor of Engineer of the Year upon a single alumnus/alumnae. This honor is to recognizes an awardees' cumulative outstanding accomplishments which reflect the impact of their Drexel education. This year, Drexel University and the College of Engineering have the privilege of honoring Dr. George E. Law, Jr. '76, '78, '81 as Drexel's 2002 Engineer of the Year.

Dr. George E. Law is currently the Lockheed Martin Chief Engineer for the F-22 Combined Test Force at Edwards Air Force Base. From 1995 to 2002, he led several key aspects of Lockheed Martin's winning competition in the Joint Strike Fighter program.

Dr. Law was then assigned as Deputy Chief Engineer for Lockheed Martin's X-35 Joint Strike Fighter Concept Demonstrator Aircraft, and led the engineering efforts on that program through technical development of the 3 flight test variants of the X-35. George was promoted to X-35 Chief Engineer in 2000. The X-35 flight test program has been seen as one of the most successful flight test programs in modern history, and resulted in the 2002 Collier Award for the revolutionary Integrated Shaft Driven Lift Fan Propulsion System. The STOVL X-35B has also been assigned to the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum collection.

George has 21 years of aerospace development experience, with a background in composite structures development an application. His program experience includes structural integrity, engineering management, and flight test experience in the F-16, A-12, National Aerospace Plane, and F-22, in addition to the JSF work.
